Eh!
If you noticed the “(u)”s in some words around the website, that’s because Canadians do things a little bit differently. For the most part, you will have no issue getting around the city, but a few local tips might help you get by:
Say sorry — even when you’re not sorry at all.
Subway = underground, while streetcar = above ground transportation (looks like a trolley)
Hard alcohol can only be found in the LCBO. Grocery stores only recently introduced beers and mixed drinks.
Washroom = Bathroom/Restroom
If you are carrying cash and someone mentions a Loonie and Toonie, they are one and two dollar coins, respectively.
Don’t mind if people throw “eh” at the end of everything they say.
Try Tim Hortons coffee (famously known for their Double Doubles and Timbits).
You can go a step further and try poutine or Beaver Tails, too.
Other fun eats that don’t exist in America: Ketchup chips, All Dressed chips, Coffee Crisps.
